Bracket keys ('[' ']') not changing radius/size
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 471.11

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.93.1, branch: master, commit date: 2021-06-22 05:57, hash: rB1b8d33b18c2f
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
I switched to sculpt mode and found that I couldn't change the size of the push tool

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Draw some lines, switch to sculpt mode
Attempt bracket buttons for size change

I've already tried taking off the one and only add-on as well
Here are my sculpt scale keys as well

Event Timeline

I forgot to say that it's also not working for anything else like pencil or pen radiuses either

And I just tried unplugging my tablet and reopening Blender

Can you tell what's your keyboard layout? Also, did you try to edit the shortcuts, setting your bracket keys as the new shortcut keys?

I suspect Blender doesn't understand your keyboard layout and thinks your bracket keys are something else. In that case setting the keys will reveal confirm the issue and reveal the keys Blender thinks they are.
I can reproduce the issue using an ABNT2 keyboard. There's no Blender version known by me in which it ever worked.

Whoa, I never thought of that
But I just tested the keys in the setting
And pressing them sets them right back to bracket keys

I also just changed the keybindings to other buttons and it still doesn't work .-.
I just installed 2.93.1 via .exe - didn't change anything with the default setup or install location

Could there be some sort of settings that turns hotkeys off/on ?

Well I don't know how I didnt run into this since I thought I tried all the buttons on my keyboard
As well as tried all the buttons that say they change the size of something

Anyways pressing 'F' allows me to set the size of my radius by scaling it visually instead of incrementally
Better than having to click on the arrows or having to stop the workflow to enter a value

.. nevermind the size that it shows doesn't match what it actually ends up being :/
(The ball is how big I scale it, but it ends up drawing lines that are nowhere near that size)

Forgot to submit a .blend

Mostly because all I do is create a new one and click on "2D Animation" option
Something I thought anyone could do, but forgot that maybe there is a setting or something that could be messing things up

This is discussed a bit in T82707: Grease Pencil - Draw Mode - Brush Size Indicator Incorrect, but not considered a bug.

I also just changed the keybindings to other buttons and it still doesn't work .-.

Please try again with File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings and from there just change the hotkeys from brackets to 8 and 9, is this still not working?
Are other tools working if you assign these hotkeys to them?

No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.

Thanks again for the report. If the problem persists please open a new report with the required information.

Sorry for no reply
I simply just got used to using F to resize
As for the not bug - it makes no sense to show the size that it's not going to be :/

N I already tried all kinds of keybinds from number keys to Numpad number keys
I can confirm that on other applications it does work for resizing brushes and eraser sizes

Feel free to close this
I use F key to then change the value of the brush size
And then adjust it as necessary until I get the integer I want for radius since it's visually incorrect
