Blender crashes on random frame during rendering animation

Short description of error

Hello guys,

Project crashes at random frame during rendering animations (sometimes it keeps going for 40+ frames some times it crashes on 10 or so )

The same happens with other project files I am trying to render.

Here are a number of things I tried so far and keeps crashing:

  1. Render with and without persistent data, adaptive sampling, dof, override material on/off (for a clay render - even with override material and with all the other materials removed from the project it kept crashing)
  1. Render in various formats and various resolutions ( PNGs, Avi jpeg and Avi raw)
  1. Render both in CPU and in GPU
  1. I also tried to render the same file on my weaker macbook with all the textures packed in the blend file, still crashes after a few frames. So I believe it’s not a hardware problem since it happens on 2 different devices. It cannot be a ram-shortage issue either as I have 72GB available while the computer overall uses only 24-30 maximum during rendering.

Finally I tried to render the projects which were crashing with blender 2.92 and it looks like it was rendering properly. (one of the projects was build in 2.93 ironically)

Also if it helps the projects seems to be rendering fine with EEVEE at least in 2.93.2

The projects still crashes in the same manner with the latest 2.93.3 (candidate version)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

The problem appears at random when rendering animations. If you run the render in 2.93.2 or 2.93.3(candidate) it should crash at some point
In the test file I removed all other assets and added only suzan with enough geometry + all the important textures fro my scene it keeps crashing

p.s.: the crash report i from the 2.93.3 but the same happens with 2.93.2

UPDATE:

After trying to run the test blend file in the attachment with 2.92 again it crashed this time in the same way it crashes with 2.93, so I assume it it not working with 2.92 either.

I can't replicate the issue, but the crash seems to happen during image drawing, so if you want a temporary workaround, you can render from the command line.
Does the issue happen in this file only
There was some refactoring around image drawing recently, can you try a more recent version of Blender and check if the crash still happens? https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/

Just a poke regarding my inquiry above, otherwise we will have to archive this for now.

No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.
