UI/Gizmo: Impossible to execute axis-aligned extrude using gizmo
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: macOS-11.2.2-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-4.2.15

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.0.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-08-13 18:45, hash: rB5655b3d1c55a
Worked: Blender 2.92

Short description of error
When using the Extrude Region tool, you can drag on any of the axis handles to extrude along that axis. But in the latest version of Master, this is broken, because the larger 'free extrude' circle blocks the ability to hit and interact with the three axis-aligned handles:

This used to work correctly, where those three handles would always take precedence, so that users can always drag on those.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Using the default startup, enter Edit Mode
  2. Enable the Extrude Region tool in the toolbar
  3. Switch to XYZ handles
  4. Make sure a face is selected
  5. Now try and drag the axis-aligned handles. it will extrude, but not along that axis. Instead, it will execute a free extrude, because the circle behind it takes the input.

Try this in Blender 2.9x and see that it works correctly.

Event Timeline

Hi @William Reynish (billreynish) , please try again with the updated version. I can not replicate this on current master: rB899935d5d02463187617d1adc5f0c0f41fe56265

Can redo with a little old versions.

Following commit has already fixed the issue: rB3f0d785d23bf: Fix T90658: selection of some 3D gizmos failing

Will close the report. Feel free to reopen the report if problem reappears :)
