Recently, this patch was implemented

which allowed node links to be colored based on custom socket types in add-ons using custom nodes (e.g. Animation Nodes).
This global "Wire Colors" overlay option, while working for built-in node editors, no longer works for other node based add-ons in the latest 3.0 and 3.1 builds.
