Short description of error

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

  1. Sculpt while having multires modifier on
  2. Move "sculpt" level up and down
  3. Go into edit mode? I am not sure if I did do this, but I read that some people did do it to cause the artifact to appear.
  4. Artifact appear
  5. Unable to fix, without restarting

I can read online that this seems to have been a bug for long, but I couldn't find a fix.

Can I use multires on my objects? What exactly caused this, and how can I fix it?

Event Timeline

David (fromart) updated the task description. (Show Details)
Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) changed the task status from Needs Triage to Confirmed.Feb 1 2022, 2:59 PM

Can confirm the behavior.

Devs are aware though, there was even a commit that introduced a healing brush for this (but got reverted in favor of looking at the root cause of why the artifacts happen in the first place)
