If the object has the 'MULTIRES' modifier and the modifier is on then the object.ray_cast of the object will fail, I don't know why this is,
如果物体有 'MULTIRES' 修改器,并且修改器是开启的那么物体的object.ray_cast将失效,我不知道为什么会这样

Script had the best_obj being printed in the loop [seems unintended].

This file (updated script included) works for me, @EMM (IMBI) , does it work for you, too?
