Blender suddenly close himself (AMD)
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT

Blender Version
Broken: 2.93.4 / 2.93.5 / 3.0.0 / 3.0.1
Worked:

Short description of error
When I open Blender it seems to be fine, but as soon as I touch a couple of buttons on the interface, try to open a file or install an add-on it closes, no error message or anything like that, it just closes.

Here are two videos to make it clearer what the problem is.

Video 1 (Not installed from the Microsoft Store): https://youtu.be/E1T3aWg-ejI

Video 2 (Installed from the Microsoft Store): https://youtu.be/7VIDgvAIlss

P.S.: Before I had, together with the problem already described, bugs in the interface, but, after installing it from the Microsoft Store, as far as I remember, I have not had any problems in the interface, however the other, already described, persists.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
No idea.

If I understand correctly, both the versions from the Blender website and the Microsoft Store crashes but the latter only crashes when you try to open a file or enable an add-on?

It seems to me from the first video that there are drawing issue. Can you make sure your GPU drivers are updated and check if the problem still persists?

Finally, can you attach the crash logs as described here https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/crash.html?

I have the drivers up to date, i also try other versions of the drivers and still happening.

The crash happens in the AMD OpenGL driver, so it is most likely a driver issue.

I have some doubts.

How can I uninstall the graphics driver through Device Manager? I have opened the device manager and I can't find the graphics driver, I see that there is the graphics card on one side and on the other side several drivers but I don't see any that is graphics.

It says that "windows initially replaced the graphics driver in device manager with the generic Windows driver, but AMD 6900 XT was automatically reinstalled."
Ok, can I stop windows from replacing the graphics driver with its generic driver?, I understand then that it has to be AMD Radeon Software controlling the graphics card and not the standard Windows graphics driver, the question is that, can't I change this without uninstalling anything?

I am not sure about the details of Windows driver installation, so I can't help here. But I guess the idea is to remove all traces of existing drivers and reinstall a new one.

I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, then uninstalled Blender and reinstalled it and still have the problem. (ㆆ_ㆆ)

I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them

Just to double-check: can you upload a new system-info.txt then (just want to be sure which driver version you are on now)?

Also there seems to be a new version out, could you check that one, too?

version number is the same, but I see the Release Date is 2/3/2022

Driver version is 22.2.1. Also tried the recommended version 21.10.2.

@Christian (NubeGris) hi, can you reproduce when running blender from blender_debug_gpu_glitchworkaround.cmd? (Enables all available workarounds for driver issues)

I don't understand what you mean, how do I do that?

@Christian (NubeGris) , open folder where blender.exe is located. And run blender_debug_gpu_glitchworkaround.cmd

It works better for me when navigating through the menu options, but closes when I open a file.

Can you try the solution presented here? https://developer.blender.org/T95412#1300411

Lately similar reports we've received T96037, T96174
And reporters managed to fix the issue with same suggestion.
You possibly have done that incorrectly (not sure)
Do you have same crash/screen flickering issue on other software?
So far it appears to be driver related issue than actual bug in Blender
@Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) , If I'm not mistaken we don't keep such reports open on Blender bug tracker.

I solved it by doing a driver cleanup with DDU, as shown in this video: https://youtu.be/x6cnoeSolkY

Blender is now working correctly for me.

Thanks for letting us know. Will close this report
