Blender crash on video textures playback higher than 1080 square resolution.

Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Have a rounded cube slightly modelled.
UV mapped the cube, assign material...... all good on simple image textures.

Assign HAP Q animated texture (600 frames both on video and timeline), press space bar on timeline to play back both in material preview and in render preview.
1080x1080 works.
1440x1440 crushes.
1992x1992 crushes.
2048x2048 crushes.
Not sure if is that the system can't handle that?

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

have a HAP Q 1080x1080 and a HAP Q 2440x2440 video texture ready.

EEVEE default settings
make rounded cube, radius 1
subdivision surface modifier level 3 > apply
edit cube > delete half faces so to have a half sphere (because you don't need the back of the spere.)
create a uv texture 2048x2048 and unwrap uvs (key U > unwrap)
create material, deleting the principled shader, making a new emissive shader, making a new image texture.
use the 1080x1080 video texture, set the lenght to 600 frames and do the same on the lenght timeline. Tick on Update frames in the texture node.
once you press the sopace bar to play it, This will work no problem.
use the 2440x2440 video texture and it will crash.

Thanks for the reference, yes it looks like the same issue.
Just tested on 3.2 alpha and:

  • HAP format are not even recognized. Despite the uv mapping and the material working correctly, once added the ivedo file the model turns magenta like if there are no textures.
  • Tried afgain with a .mp4 file 1440x1440 and still crashes.
