Saving takes long in scene view, almost instant else eg. scripting workspace

Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: GTX 750Ti

Blender Version
Worked: 3.0

Short description of error
When saving a large scene, saving usually takes up to a minute via Ctrl S from my normal modelling workspace. However from a workspace such as the scripting one, the saving is instant
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I won't attach a blend file as it would be 800mb.
To reproduce: create a large scene (materials, meshes etc) and save

I believe this issue might be partially resolved in Blender 3.1. Can you give that a try?

Still persists after updating to 3.1 via steam, will try 3.2 tomorrow

I decided to test with a large complex scene I have, I personally was unable to notice any difference between saving the file while in the Modeling or Scripting workspaces.

Maybe uploading the file you're experiencing issues with could be useful?

Guessing this might be related to EEVEE generated thumbnails. Possibly try setting... Preferences > Save & Load > File Preview Type > Screenshot.

Yeah, turns out that was it. Was set to auto, setting it to screenshot fixed the issue. Brings up the question of how does auto determine which to use. Many thanks anyway
