Unclosable console window appears whenever I exit Blender
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 21H2
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

Blender Version
Broken: 3.1.2, cc66d1020c3b, master, 2022-03-31
Worked: 3.1.0 (although this issue also started on 3.1.0 before I applied the latest build)

Whenever I exit Blender, the console window appears and is unclosable from the window itself. Instead I have to close the window from the taskbar. This appears to have been previously reported and not fixed under the following issues:s

https://developer.blender.org/T95970
https://developer.blender.org/T95727

This has only begun happening for me today, but it now occurs every single time I exit the application. I have attached a screenshot of the console window that appears as on quitting. This is from a fresh instance of the application started then immediately closed once it has launched.

It's difficult to give exact steps to reproduce since I don't know what's occurred to make this happen. I simply open Blender, and then immediately close it, and the window appears.

Event Timeline

Quick update. The window appears to remain open for around five minutes and then closes automatically.

In the same folder as blender, try running the blender_factory_startup.cmd script which will temporarily disable all addons and produce some additional log files. Does it still reproduce when you run that way? If so, attach the extra log files as well.

Hi Jesse, running with the factory startup script causes Blender to exit normally. I've attached the debug logs produced here anyway, just in case there's something in there.

Ah-ha ... and I think I may have found the culprit. It looks as though it's the BlenderKit add-on that I have. If I disable that tool in preferences, the next time I start and stop Blender, then it exits normally.

It would be interesting to see if the other users who have reported this issue (or similar) previously are also using the BlenderKit add-on.

Yes, there's another from today where BlenderKit was being used T97040. Please report this as soon as possible to the BlenderKit developers on github. It might be this issue: https://github.com/BlenderKit/blenderkit/issues/66

Thanks. I've just looked at the BlenderKit issue, and it does indeed seem like the same issue. Thanks for the link Jesse. Think you may as well go ahead and close this report now as it seems not to be an issue with Blender itself.

Yes, will archive this for now. Good luck!
