Short description of error
Opening preferences menu shuts down blender after short delay (without saving preferences)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open blender
  2. Open preferences menu
  3. Change any setting and attempt to exit preferences menu
  4. Blender will close itself after 0-5 seconds.

Thanks for the report. Did you try with factory settings?: File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings
Can you upload crash logs generated after the crash: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/crash.html#crash-log
Do you get the crash with other floating Windows (eg: Import/Export)?

Could be same as this report T95412
Try the solution mentioned in T95412#1300411

No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.

The solution mentioned in T95412#1300411 fixed the problem. Additionally, switching AMD Preferences from "compute" to "graphics" may have helped.
