Short description of error
[Please fill out a short description of the error here]
In Sculpt mode, I can't bring up the grid when I Shift R and I Crash when I Ctrl R.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
My workspace is set for 3D Printing, So I units is set for Millimeters and unit scale is set at .001

Add mesh
cube
size 250 mm
Subdivide Modifier 3 levels
Sculpt mode
Shift-R (no Grid just square)
Ctrl-R (Crash)

Did a Factory default settings and did the same thing as above except used the default cube at 2 mm. the Shift-R works and the Ctrl-R works without crashing. when I size up the cube to 250 mm it starts the problem again.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

Event Timeline

You are likely running out of memory, same as reported here T77868: Remesh Voxel Size can be much to small by default (leading to crashes). 'Edit Voxel Size' operator can have wrong range

  • you are not seeing the grid because you have so many subdivisions on the grid that these just dont display anymore, blender automatically fades then (210mm / 0.085mm = ~2470 subdivisions in one axis)
  • remeshing with so many subdivisions would mean roughly 15billion voxels

It is also less then ideal that the grid is somewhat not matching the dimensions to start with, but that is also discussed in T77868: Remesh Voxel Size can be much to small by default (leading to crashes). 'Edit Voxel Size' operator can have wrong range, will merge reports.
