Blender crashes on UI interactions, save, load, import etc
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: RX 580 4GB

Blender Version
Broken: 3.1.2 release (.msi) from the site.
Described separately:
Windows Store version.
3.2.0 (.msi) from builder.blender.org/download/daily/

Short description of error
I am very new to Blender, just installed it and it crashes when I simply interact with UI elements. At least those on top, such as Edit->Preferences click on something there. Or when I try to navigate files when I simply select disks even. And I can't find any logs in temp.
Also UI flickers sometimes.
Deleting userpref.blend didn't help. Drivers are the latest.

Strangely when I open Blender via .cmd files (such as blender_debug_log.cmd or blender_factory_startup) I was able to navigate UI a bit further, even to save project. But the whole program still closes when I close Edit->Preferences window or try to import (.fbx). Log produced after this is empty.
I'm not a Python programmer but I actually remembered I had to set PYTHONPATH in Environment Variables back in a day. Now I deleted it, restarted and reinstalled. Didn't help.

Windows Store version: similar thing. Crashes occasionally, UI flickers. I checked Temp and first time log actually has something. Attached it. Even though untitled2.blend is just a default cube scene attached it aswell. Just in case.

Daily 3.2.0: everything is the same. blender.crash.txt is empty.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Install (first time ever)->Launch in a standard way->interact with UI.

Event Timeline

The crash occurs deep inside the driver, in DrvPresentBuffers (where we don't have access).
From the crash log what we can say that the crash occurs in blf_batch_draw, which is responsible for drawing the texts, which are all over the place in the UI.
Have you tried different font styles?
Did you change Blender's language?

Pratik Borhade (PratikPB2123) changed the task status from Needs Triage to Needs Information from User.Jun 8 2022, 5:58 PM

Hi, could you try the solution suggested in T95412#1300411

Well actually, I forgot to mention that when I firstly ran Blender I changed language to Russian, but spaces between letters were all over the place so I changed language right back to English.

Anyway, I just did driver reinstall with "reset factory settings". Surprisingly, it actually worked. Thank you, everyone.

Good to see the problem is gone.
It is quite possible that it is a bug in the driver.
But if the problem arises again and you find reliable steps to replicate it, please let us know in a new report.
