- Use NVIDIA as default for reference images (mostly common for end users). Store them in the current location.
- Detect the current platform from the running system. We could use the short system info that is also used when reporting a bug.

- if for the current platform a different reference image exists, it should be used, otherwise the default will be used.
- when updating the reference images it should automatically write to the right location. When the you want to create a platform specific reference image, you should do it manually.
NOTE: A good starting point could be the workbench hair that generates different results on Mac due to workaround.
