Short description of error
Blender crashes if you have floating geometry with subd modifier and on cage mode on.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Add a plane.
  2. Add subd modifier
  3. Extrude a single vert
  4. Turn "on cage" on modifier visibility setting.

Hi, thanks for the report. This is same report as T98866: subdivion modifier crash on cage mode (EDIT MODE)
Fix is already landed in both 3.3 and 3.2.1. You can download these versions from https://builder.blender.org/download/daily
