Shouldn't the condition be changed to include 0. Either ">= 0" or "< 0" with statements swapped?

That may be true for artists working on a final shader for rendering, but for creating procedural textures and other complexities to be used by those artists, node groups are essential. For procedurals alone, this patch is a godsend.
