Is there a way to detect when operations (for example when using bpy.data.libraries.load) would introduce a cyclic dependency? Currently this command succeeds, but might create broken links.

No, the normal render produces deterministic results, for every test I did (including this example). So I think this is baking specific.

I don't understand how faces, that are not connected to the problematic part, can have influence on its shading. Is this behavior documented somewhere?

I just downloaded the new 2.73 release from the blender homepage. The bug still exists in the 64 bit release build of blender 2.73 (Hash: b4d8fb5) on windows 8.1.

The last sentence should read: Additionally, add an option called "Local" with the former description "Use the original undeformed coordinates of object", which uses the local coordinates of the object.
