I disabled "Lock Object Modes" and still got the same problem. I even activated the "Pie Menus" like Demeter suggested it and still got the same issue. The armature keeps switching from "Pose Mode" to "Object Mode" along with the mesh. I realized that when I select the armature and hit "Cntrl Tab", the armature goes back to "Pose Mode", but that means that I have to do this manually every time I get out of "weight mode". This is cumbersome, in my opinion.
You actually did it in your video. It's just that you did it fast, but you had to switch it back to Pose Mode. Here is my video and blend file where I do it slowler{F7632494}.

Thank you for the solution! It makes sense. It works now. I really appreciate the time and the effort. Thank you again :)

Not a problem, here is a blend file that you can use. :)

I understand. But my intention is not to lock the mode to pose mode. I actually would like to be able to go from selecting a bone to selecting the mesh smoothly like in 2.7. I enabled the "Lock Object Modes", but then I wasn't able to select the mesh anymore. This is very useful for certain occasions. I get the point of it, but if this setting is not enable, I think the user should be able to select a bone and then at any time select the mesh with just one click, versus two clicks. Right now, the workflow is: you select a bone, then to select the mesh you click on the mesh, but when you right click on the mesh, the armature switches to object mode first, and then you have to click on the mesh a second time in order to select it. It feels like too many steps. I am using right click selection by the way :)
Okay, that is fine, I tested it and the selection was fine after removing the boolean modifiers. However, is there any reason for issue #2 (second video)? Why do the armature switch from pose mode to object mode when trying to select the mesh after having selected a bone?

I could give you the blend file that I used to make the videos. but the problem is that Blender does this randomly (Except for issue #2, that one happens all the time), even for me it's hard to replicate this issue. My theory is that if the mesh is complex, Blender blocks the armature. This character, for instance, has several boolean modifiers and that could be causing some issues. Here is the .blend file.

Yes, I tested the shortcut and Blender crashed again. My CPU is intel core i7-2600K @ 3.40GHz. Just in case.
wow it didn't work and it also made the viewport super slow. I could barely rotate the 3d viewport.
Yeah, it still crashes. I literally tested it with the latest experimental version of Blender 2.8 (At the time when I wrote this message). version: 490a385c8124. :( It happens regardless of the file that I am working on so there is no point on sending a specific blend file. It is also worth mentioning that Blender doesn't crash when I execute the command from the top menu bar: File>New>General. Blender only crashes when using the shortcut Ctrl N.

Here is a capture
All what I do is hit (Cntrl N) in the 3D viewport window. I have always used that shortcut since 2.79 and even before.

It works now! Thank you very much.

No, I tried what you said and I couldn't still select the plane. I can only select it through the outliner. Even when I switch between right-click and left-click selection I can't still select it. But it only happens to planes, I can select the cube without problem.
