More info: I was in the middle of a replay simulation, I changed the domain from "shade flat" to "shade smooth". This caused the simulation to stop while the frame kept advancing. Then, going back to the start and hitting play, it played fine to the point where it had stopped before, after that, the liquid started falling through the effector.
You can definitely see this bug if you run a simulation, then change the cache format to openVDB. After that the simulation will not simulate.

Okay, this might have something to do with changing the cache format to openvdb

I have spent hours trying to understand all the various failure modes of Mantaflow in replay mode with little success. If I can find the time, I'll try and track this down some more.

No, nothing was moved, though I have seen that error as well.

Here is another example of mantaflow not running the sim. Here I was playing with the size of the particles, trying to see what different settings would look like. The simulation stopped running and even returning the numbers didn't get it to restart.

Open the file, select the fluid domain, press "free data" in the fluid settings. Press "bake data", then press "bake mesh". Now if you select "ctrl ." - transform object origins and move the origin, the mesh will move with the origin. It should not. It should stay in the same place with the water particles which don't move. Rebaking the data and the mesh will not fix this.
The liquid should move with the source

If you use my blend file, you don't have to do anything. Just pick a frame and render it. Doesn't get much simpler than that :)
how did you reduce bake? Also, it is easier to see the difference when you show the deformed edge, so I can't really tell anything from your picture. One thing I do note is that you seem to have the exact same texture pattern in both images. I don't get that on my version.

Okay, note that I was still able to deselect the Overwrite options after I selected FFMpeg video. Could I suggest two options instead of overriding one in a non-intuitive way? "Overwrite" and "Continue from last" or something like that?

So, somehow "global undo" was deselected even though I never even looked at that setting. I reselected it and everything is working again. Is this what should happen?
Actually, it looks like I've somehow broken undo. Here is a simple file with a cube. I created a new file in the latest release of 2.83, add the cube and then I couldn't undo it. If I open it in 2.83 and duplicate the cube, no undo. If I open it in 2.82 and duplicate the cube, I get the undo menu.

Currently pulling from the lower right corner to split the screen is much easier than right clicking.I was thinking it would be nice to add an icon to the lower right corner to indicate this visually. It would add a lot to the explorability of the interface. I was also thinking that this might be a good starter project for myself to dive into the code? Thoughts?

Here is an interesting twist: the hair physics works if all the particles are emitted on frame one.
