When a user hide an object in a viewport from outliner, the object is automatically deselected. That's how UI works now and that's pretty reasonable. I suggest that this would be extended with disabling arrow icon (hide_select property). So when from outliner one makes an object hidden in viewport, UI would deselect the object and make it non-selectable, i.e. disable arrow icon or make it unset with no possibility to set it again without switching its corresponding eye icon (hide) first. When eye icon is on again, arrow icon becomes enabled and get its previous value back.

It is cautious and provident but is not consistent. Consistent behaviour of UI would either make hidden object to be automatically non-selectable (this is not the case), or would make a user responsible for operations on selected objects even if they are hidden but selectable. I'd rather like the second scenario, but suppose the first one is better than the current state.

Yes, disabling VBO solves the issue.
