This was suggestion by @fsiddi, I think that reasoning was that these lines were distracting and not helpful. Please correct me if I am wrong or I missed some important point.

Perhaps we should leave at least option to show the grid lines in overlay popover, and I could reuse drawing function from timeline editor, which works better than function removed here.
