Hi,
I'm running the latest daily Blender 2.80 on Windows 10 x64.
Steps to reproduce:
# Start Blender.
# The splash screen offers a couple of "recent projects".
# Select a project.
# The project opens in the last mode, which is the "Compositor". I was editing a movie clip previously there and had the **backdrop** enabled.
# The backdrop does not appear automatically.
# Scrubbing the timeline would cause the backdrop to appear.
See attached screenshot where the backdrop is missing.
