== Problem ==
The current keymap in Blender 2.697x has become overly complex, messy, and very inconsistent. It needs to be reworked. There's too many cases of inconsistent workflows, complicated modifier keys, and in general there's just too many hotkeys for anyone to practically manage.
== Proposal ==
To create a new, This revamp should address,more minimal default keymap that creates an effective workflow for the most fundamental tools while leaving plenty of room for customization by the user.
//This keymap will **not** attempt to map every tool for every editor. at the bare minimumIt will attempt to offer a solid set of defaults for key tools, these items:leaving the rest up to the user.//
This revamp should address, at the bare minimum, these items:
- Make selection methods consistent across editors (including Left / Right select)
- Make it easier to learnselection modifiers (add / remove) consistent across all selection tools
- Rely less on obscure- Make it easier to learn by reducing the number of hotkey combinationss and improving consistency across editors
- Prioritize the operators that get hotkeys by default- Rely less on obscure hotkey combinations with lots of modifier keys
- Make selection methods consistent across edi- Prioritize the operators (including Left / Right select)that get hotkeys by default
- Make hotkeys consistent across editors for similar tools
== Scope ==
This keymap should likely start by addressing the fundamental selection and transform tools.Keymaps are difficult and complex. Initially this keymap will address **Selection Tools for all editors**(T37420) and the essential **3D View editor operators**. After selection and the 3D View are satisfactory then work will move to the other editors.
== Current Status ==
Myself, @carter2422, am working on the initial keymap, which will be tested and discussed amongst the UI Team first, Those things that are crucial to basic working in Blenderfollowed by testing by select active users. Specialized and less common tools come secondaryAfter select testing and reviews are finished it'll be opened up for additional discussion and input by the community.
Progress is slow, but ongoing.
